Windows, trim and doors, finished to match.

Refinished in place when the wood is sound, or taken back to the shop when it needs more. Either way it goes back matching everything around it.

Windows, trim & doors

What the work involves.

Replacing a window is the easy part. Making the new one look like it has always been there is the part that gets skipped, and it is the part you look at every day.

We finish casings, jambs, sills and sash, entry doors, patio doors and service doors. Hardware comes off and goes back on. The work happens on site where the wood is sound, and in our shop where it needs stripping, repair or a controlled environment to cure.

Oak, maple and painted work all behave differently. Oak has open grain that shows every inconsistency. Maple is tight and blotches if the conditioner is wrong. Knowing that before you start is most of the job.

How it works

Free estimate, sample, then the work.

We look at the job and put honest pricing in writing. For anything involving color, you approve a physical sample before we start. Then we prep, protect and finish, and walk it with you before we leave.

While we are there

Your house stays closed and secure.

Some pieces are refinished in place and some go back to the shop. Either way nothing is left open, and nothing goes missing.

  • Nothing stays open overnightIf a door or sash leaves the house, the opening is secured and weather-sealed before we go. You are never sleeping behind a sheet of plastic.
  • Labeled before it leavesEvery piece is tagged with its opening and its hardware. It comes back to the same jamb it came off.
  • In place where it can beMost trim and casing is refinished where it is, with the room sealed off and the dust contained. Only what needs the shop goes to the shop.
  • You see the match firstNothing is coated until you have looked at the sample against your own wood and said yes.
Common questions

About windows, trim & doors.

That is one of the most common jobs we do. We stain the new units to the color of the wood that stayed, so the room reads as one.

Not always. Doors in reasonable condition are finished in place. Ones that need stripping back come to the shop and go back on their hinges when they are done.

Usually two to four days including sampling, depending on the number of openings and whether anything needs repair.
