Legacy Painting started with a simple idea: that the finish on a house should be treated as craft rather than as a coat of paint. We work on walls and ceilings like any painter, but the part we are known for is everything made of wood. Windows, trim, jambs, doors and cabinets.
What makes that possible is a shop. We mix our own stain there, from a physical sample of your wood, until the color is right. That is why we can match something discontinued, or faded, or a single casing in a room of twelve that nobody else wanted to touch.
We work across Minnesota, from the Twin Cities metro up to the North Woods, for homeowners and for builders who need the same match held across a whole run.

The person who answers the phone.
My name is Crilin. When you call or send the form, it reaches me, and I am the one who comes out to look at the work. No call center, no salesman who hands you off to a crew you never met.
Between us the crew has more than ten years of combined experience in painting and wood finishing, and the shop is what sets the work apart: we mix stain there, from a sample of your own wood, until the color is right.
I would rather tell you a window is too far gone to refinish than take the money and hand back something you are not happy with. That is the whole business model.
Why we are called Legacy.
A legacy is the thing you leave behind for whoever comes next. Most of the wood we work on is older than we are — oak trim somebody chose forty years ago, a front door that has been opened every day since. Our job is to hand it on in better shape than we found it, matched to what was already there, so the next owner never knows anyone touched it.
That is also how we want the work to stand up. Not a finish that photographs well the week we leave, but one that is still right after ten Minnesota winters.
